Archbishop Turns Atheist?

from shm.com.au

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, the leader of the world’s Anglicans, has described the Christmas story of the three wise men as nothing but a “legend” and says not all followers must believe in the virgin birth of Jesus.

Well you don’t say.

The Archbishop also went on to say:

…there was little evidence the three wise men had existed.

I could have told him that. There’s also little evidence of Jesus, Moses, Noah, and a whole lot of other people mentioned in the bible, had ever existed.

He also said:

…the son of God was likely not born in December.

If Dr Williams keeps this up he’ll end up being an atheist. 😆

  1. I wonder if what he is really saying is, “We don’t care if you beleive or not, just as long as you belong to the club?” 😉

I think he’s pointing out that the whole ‘three wise men’ thing is not present in the scripture. (Well, only a little of it is). Jesus, Joseph, Mary and the rest are very much present in the scripture. You have a very misleading headline.

  3. December is a very rainy time for Jesus, Plus, wouldn’t we want to pagan-isitically put his birthday in spring, the true time of birth?

I am waiting for the public announcement that the whole cross and resurrection thing was also not really factual.

John Shepherd, Anglican Dean of Perth used to make similar comments every Good Friday. Oh, the wailing and gnashing of teeth that would ensue in the West Australian letters pages!
